The Challenge
Kenyan chamas collectively manage billions of shillings every year, yet most groups still track everything by hand. When records are kept in a notebook or a WhatsApp group, money goes unaccounted for, disputes arise over who paid what, and there is no way for members to verify the group's balance. The trust that makes a chama work starts to break down.
The Solution
ChamaLedger gives every chama a private digital home. The admin sets up the group, invites members with a code, and opens monthly contribution cycles. Members can see the payment grid in real time and pay their contribution directly via M-Pesa without leaving the app. Loans are tracked with automatic repayment schedules. Meetings are recorded with attendance and minutes. At any time, the admin can pull up the group's health score and a full breakdown of contributions, loans, and activity to share with the group.
